Biography
​
I am a freelance documentary filmmaker and I have won both an EMMY and a British Academy Award (BAFTA) for my work. In addition, I’ve been nominated for the Dutch Academy Award (the Golden Calf) and twice for both the Prix d’Europa and the Royal Television Award (RTS). I’ve also won the Amnesty International Documentary Award, the One World Award and the Rory Peck Sony Award for my camera work, among other awards and honours.

I hold Master’s Degrees in Philosophy, Anthropology and Latin American Studies and I studied Documentary Direction at the British National Film and Television School.

Throughout my career, I have directed several feature documentaries, such as Satudarah – One Blood, Crips: Strapped ‘n Strong, Fighting for Peace and Eddy’s War. I have also made a number of investigative films about human rights issues for BBC, Channel 4, Al Jazeera and HBO. Most of these films were made together with my wife Mags Gavan.

Recently, I worked as a director on various series for the big streaming networks such as Narcowars for Disney+, Make or Break for Apple TV+ and Drug Lords, Dope, Drive to Survive and Captains of the World for Netflix.
